Roscrea Heritage Society host events at Damer House and Roscrea Castle throughout the year. These include lectures and presentations, recitals and other cultural events, exhibitions and receptions, book fairs and displays, book launches and educational courses. RHS is to the forefront in promoting all aspects of the region’s heritage and artistic endeavours.
All events are open to the general public, sometimes for a small fee.

Members of RHS receive personal written notice of events and usually have free entry.
Special consideration is always given to schools and educational groups.
The following events have taken place at Damer House and Roscrea Castle
unless otherwise stated, all under the auspices of Roscrea Heritage Society
2000 - 2002.

•Garden Party (in conjunction with Birr Chapter of Irish Georgian
Society) at the Garden of Ms Angela Jupe.

• Military Ceremonials on behalf of the Minister for Defence Mr Michael Smith T.D., took place at Castle Complex. Booklet printed for the occasion edited by Mr George Cunnigham, President of RHS.
Australian Ambassador in attendance. R.H.S. presented a collection of
Military books to the Irish Defence Forces Library at the Curragh to commemorate the life of the late Major General James J. Quinn, a native of Roscrea. Further additions are being made to this collection.

• Heritage dinner at Tower Restaurant to honour visiting Professors and
students of Chicago Institute of the Arts; lecture by Professor Vince Michael on Historic Preservation in the USA.

• Homecoming of the O’Carrolls of Maryland to Roscrea; booklet and lecture by GC on Ely O’Carroll.

• Butler Clan gathering _ Evening of Irish Music and Dance by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí, Ros Cré; lectrure by GC on Butlers of Roscrea.

• Building of Website for R.H.S. by Integrity Ireland; going on line May 2002

• Extensive booklet on Ely O Carroll exhibition published; personalised for various functions including O Carroll visit.

• Reprinting of walking tour/heritage trail booklet

• Heritage acquisitions by Roscrea Heritage: Sean Ross Sale in 1858 (Mealys auction, December, 2001)
Local publications sponsored and acquired

• Sponsorship and involvement with the publication of Roscrea People.

• Heritage Book Fair in aid of Hospice; members day at Damer House.

• Various heritage groups welcomed to Roscrea Castle Complex, including RSAI, led by their President Con Manning; and Historic Preservation Group of the Institute of the Arts, Chicago (Special editions of Ely O Carroll booklet prepared).

• Audio Visual presentation on Monastic Roscrea made available to visitors; it is hoped that this presentation will be more widely available in 2002 (slides courtesy of GC; introduction by Brendan Carmody).

• The Roscrea Conferences: twice yearly at Mount St Joseph Abbey. Sponsorship by RHS; visits by participants at intervals to view ongoing heritage work by Roscrea Heritage.

• RHS celebrations for the election of a Roscrea native, Dom Laurence as Abbot of Mount St Joseph; ceremonial gifts to new Abbot by RHS; formal visit by members to Abbey.

• SW Midlands Branch of Crann - meetings and lectures in Damer House.

• May 2002: Roscrea Heritage Website going on line. Site to be completed by end of May 2002. Facility for continuous updating; modern computer equipment acquired by RHS; email.

• Sean Ross Heritage Project; archaeological and architectural assessment of medieval church site (Jim Higgins and Christy Cunniffe) sponsored by RHS.
Ongoing involvement in entire project by RHS.

Recent Events at Roscrea Heritage - Summer 2002
Castle Complex open daily for visitors.
Thatcher Exhibition continues at Damer Annex during May and June.
Visit of the Historic Preservation Graduate Students, Institute of the Art, Chicago: June 19th 2002
